If we all contribute, we can make a difference!!!
A fine, fine lady.
Creator of All My Children and One Life to Live, soap operas that my grandmothers watched and watch, soaps that my mother watched from childhood onward, soaps that I have grown up with since birth.
I remember Erica Kane, Tad Martin, David Hayward, Adam Chandler and Victoria Lord, Dorian Cramer-Lord, Blair Cramer, Bo and Nora Buchanan, Asa Buchanan, David Vickers from my childhood.
I grew up with Starr Manning, we started dating at the same time, we went to high school together, we reached milestones together. Now I’m just supposed to say au revoir? THIS IS BULLSHIT.
These soap operas are groundbreaking and are fearless in the programming they show. Agnes Nixon was a woman ahead of her time, willing to take risks to take her beloved programs to the next level and to new audiences.
It literally makes me sick that the heartless bastards at ABC who just 9 years ago promised it was a PRIORITY to save the soaps and that us ABC fans had nothing to worry about when we saw other daytime dramas such as As The World Turns, Passions, and Guiding Light (which may I add began on radio BEFORE television and survived that transition) disappear before our eyes. ABC is the only network that OWNS their own soaps, they have the power to make the decision and they chose to abandon their audience who has been with them for over four decades. It makes me absolutely sick.
I can’t imagine my days without Todd Manning and my relentless hope that he and Blair can live happily ever after. I can’t imagine LIFE without ERICA KANE. ERICA KANE EVERYBODY! THE QUEEN OF DAYTIME! It scares me that AMC was able to axed so thoughtlessly, it terrifies me to think that without Erica Kane, the soap opera world will inevitably …die. All I have left is General Hospital, but according to the network, that’s only as long as the ratings are making them enough money.
What other shows could bring in families of audiences, and what other shows can survive the test of time?? What other shows can you say that the LEAD ACTORS are willing to take a gigantic pay cut to ensure the survival of their show??? YEAH, NO OTHER SHOWS, because soap operas are different, they are legacy and family and history, and tradition. Most people who watch them, watch them because their mother sis, and her mother before that. It’s a family affair and viewers consider their stories and characters as part of the family. We devote 5 days a week to keeping up with our friends. No other shows invites you in 5 days a week.
We’re there with our friends through it all. Birth, School, Marriage, Divorce, DNA testing, dying, coming back from the dead, finding out their husband is their best friend’s father who is a serial killer who used to be a woman! (don’t worry us soap fans are not that deluded, you can laugh! We laugh too, we realize how ridiculous some stories can be, but that’s part of the love, part of what keeps us coming back for more)
SO WE FIGHT HARD.
I can guarantee AMC and OLTL fans will not rest until we have fought to the deaths for what we love. In a world where nobody’s really dead (even burying a body doesn’t guarantee death) and in a world where just when you think there’s no hope suddenly YOUR BABY IS ALIVE! It’s just been being raised by your best friend this whole time WE WON’T LET OUR STORIES JUST DIE.
The Great and the Least,
The Rich and the Poor,
The Weak and the Strong,
In Sickness and in Health,
In Joy and Sorrow,
In Tragedy and Triumph,
You are ALL MY CHILDREN
Here’s what you do when you don’t find the rainbow’s end, this time.
Here’s where to go when it looks like the rain won’t end, don’t cry.
I’ll give you tomorrow, let me be the one to share it with.
And each day that follows.
‘Cause we only have One Life to Live
Susan Lucci as Erica Kane circa 1971
This is a call to all soap fans, we need to band together & boycott all non-soap programming on ABC. We have to boycott ABC daytime’s sponsors and call the affiliates to let them know we won’t watch their news & of the boycott. Twitter @FireFrons

Kelly Ripa discusses how heartbroken she is about the cancellations of All My Children and One Life to Live. I’m heartbroken as well. It is like a chunk of your life is being taken away by the selfishness of ABC. We need to save these legacies!

To all the loyal ABC soap fans,
I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are.
